Hello world!

Hey everyone!

Jayleen here. This is my new blog, created specifically for my writing class called Rhetoric of Gender and Sexuality in the New Media. While I created it for a class, I plan to also use this blog to document my adventures and interests through photography and writing. Enjoy!

About me:

I grew up in Telluride, CO, a small ski town in the heart of the San Juan Mountains. Growing up in Telluride was a privilege and I wouldn’t have it any other way. It helped me develop and pursue an interest and appreciation for the outdoors through activities such as skiing, hiking, biking, climbing, etc. I have brought these interests to Boulder with me, which has made the adjustment of moving from a small town of 2,000 people depending on the season, to the crazy Boulder Bubble.  My outdoor passions have also helped me determine who I am and what I want to do with my life, well sort of. College has been a challenging experience for me. Like I said, the adjustment to a bigger place has been tough, but I have also been presented with a number of personal issues that have made me really not enjoy it and almost not come back. I recently made some big life changes, and I am finding ways to help myself adapt to this lifestyle a little better. This is supposed to be the best time of my life, and so I want to do what it takes to make that happen like many of my friends. And things are starting to change for sure. Through yoga and other forms of self healing, I have noticed improvements. I think that this blog will be another form of healing, by allowing me to recap/re-assess things I’ve done and determine what I can do better or differently next time. I hope you enjoy learning about my journeys into wilderness and into life!

Hi Jayleen! I love your blog design. I could tell you love the outdoors by your header image. I’m sorry to hear that you’ve had hard times trying to adapt to a bigger town. It tends to happen because we come out of our comfort zones aka our hometowns. I’m an out-of-state student so I understand you in the sense that we try to adapt to what Boulder has to offer us. Nonetheless, I’m glad that you have found outside resources as a form of self healing. I look forward to reading your blog as the semester progresses.

Hey Jayleen! I really enjoyed reading this because it showed your confidence in not being afraid to admit that you’ve struggled and recently overcome some challenges. That’s what college is all about and it’s so awesome that you’ve found outlets for for self-improvement. Also so cool that you’re from Telluride! I’ve never been but I hope to soon…I’ve heard amazing things!
